| To get to Akaroa, there are several alternatives. Garden City Helicopters can fly guests from Christchurch International Airport directly to Akaroa. Limousine or charter bus hire can be arranged by many Christchurch hire companies. There are regular scheduled bus tours and commuter buses. When driving to Akaroa, allow at least 80 minutes travelling time, however, because of the spectacular views and many places of interest you will probably spend several enjoyable hours "exploring" your way to us. Akaroa's Langlois Eteneneaux house is the oldest in Canterbury, Akaroa is in fact the oldest town in Canterbury. The First vineyard in New Zealand was established here. The nations first Catholic Church and the Akaroa Village Inn itself was built on the site of New Zealand's first residential Hotel "The Bruce" established in 1842. Akaroa from its harbour to its tussock peaks is truly unique and although close to Christchurch needs time to explore.
